The Jonathan Leslie Memorial Fund
"Score a goal for life!"
ission of the Fund is to promote drug and alcohol awareness for teens and young adults in the Arlington, Texas and throughout North Texas. In furtherance of the Fund's mission, Jonathan's dad, John Leslie, has told Jonathan's story to over 15,000 high school students in Arlington, Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine, Cleburne, and Mineral Wells, Texas in "Fatal Choices, Shattered Dreams" and "Every 15 Minutes" programs in an effort to prevent another teen death as a result of an alcohol-related traffic incident. Jonathan's story has also been told on KTVT-11 with Jody Dean and in events sponsored by the Recovery Resource Council of North Texas (www.recoverycouncil.org).
Since its inception, the Fund has distributed over $15,000 in scholarships to graduating senior high school students at James W. Martin High School in Arlington, and to graduating senior ice hockey players in Arlington. The Fund has also supported the Recovery Resource Council with several donations to promote high school drug and alcohol awareness programs in the Arlington schools and in its mission to reduce drug and alcohol abuse in our community.
The Fund's slogan is "Score a Goal for Life", in recognition of Jonathan Leslie's membership on the Arlington Martin Warriors Ice Hockey team. Jonathan's number "44" has been retired by the Warriors and a banner in his memory hangs at the Warrior's home rink, the Dallas Stars Ice Center in Duncanville, Texas.
